Institute of Volcanology carries out instrumental monitoring of all most active volcanoes of Kamchatka and Kurile Islands. The Northern group of volcanoes is monitored from the Kamchatka Volcano Observatory located in the town of Klyuchi. Volcano observations in East Kamchatka are conducted by the Institute of Volcanology from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. At North Kuriles surveillance of volcanoes is carried out during expeditions to the town of Severo-Kurilsk.

I. Volcanoes: Kliuchevskoy, Sheveluch, Bezymianny (Northern group)

1. Constant visual observations

2. Seismic monitoring, permanent network of seismic stations

3. Geodetic surveillance

4. Two or three-time sampling and analysis of volcanic gases with the help of vacuum KOH + Cd(OH) 2 bubblers

5. Study of eruptions

6. Volcanic hazard mapping

II. Volcanoes: Avachinsky, Koryaksky, Mutnovsky, Gorely (East Group)

1. Visual surveillance

2. Seismic monitoring, permanent network of seismic station

3. Geodetic surveillance

4. Two or three-time sampling and analysis of volcanic gases with the help of vacuum KOH+Cd(OH)2 bubblers

5. Study of eruptions

6. Volcanic hazard mapping

III. Volcanoes: Ebeko, Chikurachki, Alaid (North Kuriles volcano group)

1. Visual observations

2. Routine seismic monitoring with the help of the regional seismic station

3. Two or three-time sampling of volcanic gases with the help of vacuum KOH+Cd(OH)2 bubblers

4. Monitoring of H2S and SO2 within the limits of the town of Severo-Kurilsk
